Mercator vs Peter's Projection Maps

Today in class we were given time to write the differences between the Mercator and Peter's Projection maps. On the Mercator map, Greenland and Africa appear to be the same size, but Peter's Projection map shows us that Africa is actually 14 times larger than Greenland. On the Mercator map, Europe is larger than South America, but South America is 6.9 million square miles and Europe is  3.8 million square miles, and Peter's Projection map accurately shows us that. Mexico is 0.1 million square miles bigger than Alaska, but Alaska is drawn 3 times larger than Mexico on the Mercator map. In the Mercator map, Germany looks like it's in the middle, but it's actually in the northernmost quarter of the earth on Peter's Projection map. Population and Settlement Review

Today in class we reviewed the terms from our population and settlement unit. At the beginning of class, Mr. Schick told us that he was thinking about giving us a pop quiz but decided against it because he didn't want us to bomb them and have to explain to our parents why we are failing quarter two during is parent-teacher conferences. So instead of a pop quiz, Mr. Schick just asked us the questions from the quiz and had us answer them out loud. Some of the questions included birth and death rates, net migration rates, life expectancy rates, and population questions. Pretty much everything we talked about was on our population and settlement test. I was asked a question about net migration, and whether the country had a positive or negative migration rate. I got the question wrong because I had not been paying attention and I didn't know I was being called on. Day Before Egypt Quiz

Today in class we prepared for our 75-point quiz on ancient Egypt. We started reviewing by going through the book as a class, and Mr. Schick would point out whether or not something would be a quiz question. As we did this, I wrote down what we will need to know. Some of the vocab words that I wrote down were delta, the Nile River, silt, pharos, upper Egypt, lower Egypt, and Papyrus. Some other notes I took were that desserts were natural barriers, Narmer (aka Menes) was the first king to rule a unified Egypt, the Egyptian government was run by a theocracy, Ka is their afterlife, Champollion translated the Rosetta Stone, complex hieroglyphics, simple hieroglyphics, and Greek were the languages on the Rosetta Stone, the Rosetta Stone was found in 1799, Champollion translated it in 1822, maat means harmony and balance, and isfet is the bad side.
