Excellence Quiz

Today in class we had a quiz on the excellence powerpoint. I thought that the quiz was pretty fair, and I felt like I came prepared for the most part. There were a few questions that I wasn't totally sure of, but overall I felt like I knew most of the material on the test. I think the main thing that helped me with the test was all of our discussions during class because I learn better when talking about things rather than just copying them off of the board. I also feel pretty good about my essays too because I took my time and tried to explain my answers as best as I could. I don't think I would change anything about the test, but maybe I would study my notes a little more just so could be even more sure of my answers. After the test, we were able to use our extra time to write our blog posts.

Mr. Schick was out today so we had a sub. He gave us the assignment to watch the three videos that he posted about demographic transition and write three facts that we learned from each video. After we finished writing our facts and watching the videos, we have to write about which video we liked the best and why. Mr. Schick's Post

Our cyber assignment for today is to write a reflection on the thoughts that Mr. Schick posted on his blog. The Coronavirus has completely changed everyone's current lifestyles and routines making it difficult for a lot of people to adjust to the change. It sucks but there isn't anything anyone can do about it because the situation is out of our control. The best thing that we can do is try to make the best out of the situation and also put effort into our school. Mr. Schick mentioned how students are tempted to look up an answer or ask a friend, which doesn't help you understand what you are learning. I can relate to this because sometimes some things are really hard or I don't feel like doing them so I want to give up, but that isn't helpful to me because I'm not learning anything and it'll just push me further behind. He also mentions how we should "rise to the occasion,  and actually strengthen our resolve to be good people who do excellent work.&

Gums, Germs, and Steel finishing video

Today in class, we finished watching part one of the Guns, Germs, and Steel video. There are three parts in total of the video series, but Mr. Schick told us that we are only going to be watching part one. We rewatched the part of the video about the 14 domesticated animals because that will be a key part of this unit. We continued to learn about Diamond's theory of geographic luck. We learned about the fertile crescent, it's located in the middle east and all of the lands are on the same line of latitude. Civilizations in the fertile crescent would be geographically blessed. None of the domesticated animals came from Papua New Guinea, they came from North Africa, Europe, and Asia; the llama came from South America. Papua New Guineans eventually got pigs, but none of the other domesticated animals meaning that they still have to do manual labor.
